Kara seems to think that she really doesn’t need the rest of us anymore. After all, she can hold her own bottle, walk and climb to get what she wants, tear apart the kitchen, or a book, all on her own!
Have a look by clicking the picture…

Kara’s not a baby any more, just ask her! She loves anything that is a sign of her being a "big girl." She puts her onesie on all by herself, then squeals with delight at how grown up she is. She took her first step on the day after Christmas, and after recovering from the shock of it all, looked up at me with a look of intense satisfaction. She loves telling Chase what to do, especially when we go on walks, she sits in her stroller with Chase walking next to her, and she shakes her hand at him and shouts at him to stay close. She decided on January 2 that she no longer had time for nursing, and finds a bottle much more appropriate to the "on the go" lifestyle of a 10 month old. She is certainly determined.
Other accomplishments:
December 26 - takes first step
December 29 - She can say "banana," "milk," and "all gone"
January 2 - She discovers bananas can be used to style her hair, and it sticks!
January 3 - "pretends" to bite mama’s fingers, and grins at how well she copied the game she and daddy play (this is significant because it shows she is showing some level of control over her previous vicious use of those razor sharp baby teeth - this time she was very careful not to hurt mama)
January 4 - holds her own bottle at feeding time, gives kisses to the baby in the mirror, initiates her own game of peek-a-boo with her bib at dinner, and removes the tray from her high chair.
It’s a busy month!

Our little girl isn’t so little any more! At her nine month check up, she was 21 lbs 6 oz, and 30 inches tall (thats really tall for her age). She is pulling up on everything, claps, giggles, says mama, daddy, and hungry, along with plenty of commentary on everything going on around her. She loves chasing Chase, and playing games with mom and dad.

Little Kara isn’t so little any more…And her new tricks keep her mom and dad very busy. Here are a few of her latest accomplishments…
October 20: she can pick up veggie puffs and get them to her mouth!
October 21: She goes down the playground slide - and loves it.
October 23: Fall arrives - and she gets bundled up in all her winter clothes.
October 25: she can clap
October 27: She visits the pumpkin patch
October 28: she can use a sippy cup all by herself
October 30: Daddy gives Kara a bath
October 31: she can hold her own bottle
November 1: She decides that the remote should be hers and hers alone!
November 2: She tells her mother "I can do it myself" (little imp!)
November 5: she perfects her pincer grasp (finger and thumb) and finds that it makes picking up those puffs so much easier
November 6: She can stand up in her crib! She stands constantly, while pulling up and holding on to things. She crawls. She sits up by herself (as in, goes from tummy to sitting without parental intervention), and she discovers cherrios - yummy!
Eight months was a big day for her!
Oh, and as you’ve probably figured out by now, click on the picture to see what she’s been up to!

I was holding Kara this evening, so she could watch me send off an email and guess what? She decided that she wanted to do some emailing herself! Well, she started pounding the keyboard, scratching, poking and pushing keys randomly… managed to open my internet explorer, get to the google site (home page), type in some search text and get Google to search for her query!! Here is her handiwork:

Sadly, she did not get any results!
Well, at least a first try!

Thankfully the remainder of our visit was much less adventurous, and far more enjoyable than the flight.
Shawdi and her roomate Christy had so many fun things planned for us to do! And so many fun things waiting for Kara to play with! Have a look below by clicking on the picture!
Shawdi had arranged for Kara to have her pictures taken! What a perfect idea for a princess…Kara immediately began smiling and posing for the camera. She giggled through wardrobe changes and was charming for every picture. Click below to see our princess all dressed up! Thank you Aunt Shawdi!
Shawdi and Christy also took us to the San Diego Zoo - we saw beautiful birds, greedy monkeys, a friendly giraffe, and adorable little deer. There was also a goat that made Kara laugh - I think it reminded her of Chase! See more by clicking on the flamingoes!
Our Last day we went swimming. The water was freezing, but Kara didn’t seem to mind. She enjoyed splashing and kicking, and being pulled along through the water. While Shawdi was holding her a cool breeze blew across the pool, and suddenly she realized she was cold! Even worse, she realized it was not her mother holding her. Forlornly, she looked up at Shawdi and pleadingly said "Ma Ma!" We were so taken aback by it that she had to say it again before she was indeed restored to her mother’s arms. See Kara swimming by clicking the picture below…
Finally it was time to go home - God was very gracious and we had the same little row of two seats that we had on the flight there. So there was an extra seat for Kara to use! We said goodbye to Shawdi and Christy at security, and they watched me struggle through the secuity checks - juggling a stroller, car seat, baby, and diaper bag. We found our gate and enjoyed a wonderfully uneventful flight home. Kara’s daddy was waiting for us, and she surprised him by saying "da da da" when she saw him! She was so happy to see him! We celebrated by going to Panda Express for dinner, where she decided she wanted some too! We thought that was just too much growing up for one week. but she did get to sit at the table in a high chair. What a big girl our little baby is becoming!

After a rather adventurous flight (being told as we were trying to board that Kara couldn’t have her car seat because her seat wasn’t a window seat, getting settled in our aisle seat, administering infant tylenol, preparing for takeoff, watching the ever informative safety demonstration, not taking off, learning that a window fell out of the plane into the first officers lap while trying to take off, this resulted in us not taking off, waiting an hour and a half while they tried to repair window, determining that the window was not immediatly reparable, sending us off the plane, waiting for them to find the stoller and car seat, running from terminal D to the sky train and then running further to our new gate in terminal A, waiting another hour, boarding the new plane, getting a row all to ourselves, with Kara in her car seat, Kara, exhausted from all the excitment, and perhaps feeling the soporific effects of the tylenol, falling fast asleep and missing the second safety briefing, sleeping myself, and landing in San Diego without further incident), Kara finally met her Aunt Shawdi in San Diego! An appropriate flight for a visit to see Shawdi - I would expect an adventure!
Perhaps the pictures don’t do it justice, (no photos of aforementioned broken window) but go ahead and have a look anyway…click on the picture
